The Effectiveness of GPT Zero as an AI Detector in a Hong Kong Private Institution

Abstract

In the modern education world, technology plays a big role in teaching and learning. Lessons can be conducted through online platforms, and students may not need to attend classes in person to obtain knowledge. Technology in education becomes very convenient for both teachers and students, but at the same time, it brings a lot of challenges to education fields. The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has become an issue for most of the institutions around the world, since it can help students to finish their assignments within a second of time. Different institutions in Hong Kong have their own protocols to deal with AI assignments, but there is no conclusion which one is more effective. In this study, 100 sample assignments were used to check whether a system called GPT Zero is effective in spotting AI written essays. The results from this study provide insights into the current situation of AI in education field
