Promoting Inclusion in Schools: Perspectives on Practical Implementation Techniques by Participants in an Experiential Educators' Workshop

Abstract

The fair and effective management of diversity in schools constitutes a timeless challenge for educators and school professionals. Education of school professionals in inclusion tools and techniques provides personal growth opportunities and enhancement of skills especially for children at risk to adopt challenging behaviors inside or outside of classrooms. Implementation of approaches such as Narrative and Strengths-based approach, combined with methods such group social work, offer a functional framework for promotion and enhancement of inclusion. The current study focuses on the inclusion techniques and practices concerning prevention of discrimination at school. Best practices and positive strategies of diversity inclusion based on an experiential workshop addressed to teachers and special educational staff, are thoroughly presented and analyzed. Empirical data, as highlighted through participants’ discourse, indicate ways of students’ support within their educational, learning and social environment leading to inclusion of diversity.
