Open Source, Open Mind: A Narrative of Introduction to Accounting

Abstract

This paper is a narrative of teaching and learning experience with the course Introduction to Accounting. The instructor adopted open source to help students reduce their budget on textbooks and to motivate their learning interests. The instructor utilizes new technologies to engage students, and to provide new perspectives about emerging trends. This narrative will answer the following questions: Why use open sources? Can open source meet the curriculum requirements? How to choose valuable open sources to engage students?
