Abstract
This paper focuses on the typology, trajectories, and aspirations of several women and men entrepreneurs in the outdoor sports and leisure sector in the south of France. It highlights their relationship with the environment and the strategies they deploy to address the challenges of climate change and ecological transition. It examines how these actors negotiate the tensions between performance/economic profitability and protection of nature/their working environment. It highlights the uncertainties linked to (1) the greater (?) vulnerability of women in this economic, local, and tourism sector to climate change, (2) multiple jobholding as a necessity for the economic survival of women entrepreneurs, (3) the presence of women in the market as key to securing and protecting the environment and raising environmental awareness (among customers).
