Dwelling the World, Dwelling the Self - From Local Practices to an Ethical Framework for Sustainable Tourism Communication: Real Estate, Design, and Visual Culture for Place Stewardship in a Mountain Destination

Abstract

This study proposes an ethical framework of dwelling for tourism communication that links place, body, law, community, and culture. Grounded in the practice of a real-estate agency serving the mountain destination of Asiago (Northern Italy) and instantiated through a bilingual digital/print magazine, the project integrates market literacy with cultural valorization. The framework articulates three interlinked planes—an ontological plane that cultivates forms of belonging which avoid exclusion, an epistemic plane that advances critical reflection through visual and textual inquiry, and an embodied plane that trains attentiveness to posture, breath, light, and rhythm. Within this horizon, interior design and architectural psychology clarify how spatial form shapes perception and conduct; legal and heritage frameworks orient a civic horizon of landscape quality; history braided with itinerancy converts travel into situated learning; and cinema and photography operate as cognitive practices that make places thinkable and livable. Operationally, we offer short case vignettes from LoveImmobiliare Magazine—photo essays, the “My Window is a Painting… and a Mirror” competition, collaborations with the Gallio Film Festival (production-design award)—and triangulates texts, images, and reader/workshop feedback. Transferability depends on local partnerships and editorial independence. The study delivers a transferable blueprint that aligns real-estate and leisure practices with stewardship and cultural valorization, addressing new approaches, concepts, and frameworks while showing how a regional medium can scale globally without losing authenticity.
