Becoming Aware of Our Hidden Pardigms: Using Paradigms to Integrate Knowledge of Aging and Other Ascribed Social Statuses

Abstract

In the session, I intend to show the audience members how to become aware of several paradigms–hidden fundamental assumptions about how the world is structured and how it operates. I then intend to show how these paradigms underlie and affect, often with unintended consequences, people’s theories about aging and other social statuses, people’s research methods into aging and other social statuses, and even their abilities to solve both personal and world problems.
