Abstract

Bulacan is one of the provinces in the Philippines that has peculiar cultures, indigenous practices and beliefs especially with regards to health and healing that has been passed from one generation to the next. The study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of different traditional healing and health practices in the Municipality of Santa Maria, Bulacan. Quantitative and qualitative research methods were applied, face-to-face interviews, focus group discussion, and archival investigation to obtain a comprehensive result. This shows that the traditional healing and health practices are not that effective in some instances compared to the scientific approach, however, many Filipino folks especially those who are living in far-flung areas are still adhering to the beliefs that they inherited from their ancestors regarding folk healing and medicine.
