Abstract
The interest in San Antonio Park constitutes an important geographical and symbolic reference for the inhabitants and visitors of the city of Medellín, Colombia. Throughout the history of the city, this place has been marked by different urban planning decisions and power dynamics of the municipal administration and violence, especially during the 20th century. We consider San Antonio Park as a cultural landscape, to the extent that it has been created by a cultural group or various cultural groups from a natural landscape. Regarding the migratory processes of the city of Medellín in relation to San Antonio Park, we warn that it is necessary to analyze the type of mobility in this specific case, since until now in the information tracking, there are no studies that link migration with the significance of public spaces in Medellín. There are studies on San Antonio Park as heritage or migration, from a demographic, sociological, anthropological and historiographical point of view; but not of the cultural practices of people in migration status associated with the configuration of San Antonio Park as a cultural landscape, that is why our proposal analyses the migrants’ perceptions and practices about living and working in San Antonio Park. Most of the migrants are foreigners, such as Venezuelan people, and also afro-descendant and indigenous people who come from the Pacific Coast, mainly. Their interactions, their ways of understanding their experiences being migrants living in Medellín tell us how people experience and project meanings, meanings and expectations for their lives.
