Abstract
Pre-social media, there were experts who made their fields approachable for viewers of all ages, turning research into entertainment. These experts include, for example, Bill Nye “The Science Guy,” Bob Ross turning painting and art into entertainment, and Steve Irwin generating interest in various animals. Since social media has dominated society, there is an open market for a brand of influencer who can turn scientific research into entertainment. We work to discover how we can transform research into social media content that follows current trends and gains user interest. This is completed through a social media account dedicated to scientific research grant collects, which features videos and posts following current streams of popular culture and social media trends. The videos follow current themes, such as ASMR, others will utilize filters, sounds, and effects that are viral. This research project culminates in understanding of how science can utilize the humanities to become approachable. This paper covers how our research went and whether or not this cross-disciplinary faculty-student research project worked.
