Abstract
The paper discusses how Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) may be used to analyze texts in Tagalog. It offers a critique of J.R. Martin’s attempt at applying SFG in Tagalog, followed by the author’s own explanations as a native speaker of Tagalog and finally an analysis of a local paperback as an illustration of how SFG as a linguistic framework may be a valuable analytical tool in a language other than English.
