Sari-Sari Stores in the Midst of Globalization

Abstract

Several years past, small-scale retail outlets also known as “Sari-sari stores” in the cities located in every zone and alley helped much to the day-to-day family needs of the owner in order to augment the sustenance of their livelihood. Parents through the small income of their sari-sari stores can send their children to school, the family enjoys their dignified life, build or repaired their own dwellings, and continuously have sufficient income. The aim of the study is to share the plight of sari-sari stores in the midst of fast-growing groceries and hypermarkets in towns and cities. Mixed methods of research were applied to understand fully the issues and arrive to a comprehensive outputs. The results of the study show that sari-sari stores are about to wind down due to product competition, safety and imperishability.
