Abstract
This study introduces the Theory of Virtuality Culture, a framework that explores the convergence of emerging technologies and the arts. Drawing from Walter Ong’s work on orality and literacy, which highlights the transformative effects of communication technologies on culture, we examine how digital and virtual environments are reshaping human expression. Dempsey’s concept of “virtuality culture” further illuminates the blurring lines between physical and digital spaces, offering new ways to understand engagement with the arts in today’s world and as we evolve. This session highlights how virtuality culture influences artistic creation and interaction by connecting Ong’s theories on media and cognitive shifts with Dempsey’s focus on hybrid realities. We explore how this framework can help educators, technologists, and artists navigate the cultural implications of emerging digital tools and spaces. The presentation provides key insights into the evolving relationship between technology, creativity, and education, offering a fresh perspective on the role of virtuality in contemporary cultural practices.
