Abstract
Public handicrafts seem to be a trend worldwide, encompassing traditional crafts such as metalworking, woodworking, pottery, leather carving, glassworking, and more. With the proliferation of technology and tools, as well as the infusion of trendy hipster styles, craft-making has become popular leisure activities for many. The current popularity of handicrafts echoes a revival reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts Movement over a century ago. This research, starting from perspectives in anthropology and psychology, aims to explore the value of handicrafts. Meanwhile, focusing on Taiwanese society, the study analyzes contemporary discourses surrounding popular handicrafts. Through the collection and analysis of content and promotional materials from various handicraft courses, this research seeks to understand as people eagerly anticipate the construction of the meta-cosmos and the ultimate virtual reality, why is the experience of handicrafts fervently advocated? What does it represent in terms of collective consciousness?
