Abstract
This paper analyzes Awilda Rodríguez Lora’s performance work Sustento, focusing on the notion of sustenance in the context of Puerto Rican contemporary art. It is my contention that the exploration of sustainability in Rodríguez Lora’s work sheds light on a broader commitment of contemporary Puerto Rican artists who purposefully resist the precariousness of deeply entrenched colonial legacies through collaborative artistic practices that are at odds with the cultural logic of extractivism.
