Abstract
The political philosopher, Alexander Kojeve, was the nephew of the painter and artist, Wassily Kandinsky. Both were born in Moscow, but spent most their active intellectual lives in the West, mainly in France. In this paper, I shed light on the way their dialogue helped each other to improve their theories of art and aesthetics. I argue that both Kojeve’s and Kandinsky’s philosophical ideas were a successful result of the encounter of Russian and Western European worldviews.
