Abstract

This comparative study is the result of ongoing collaboration between two partnered institutions of higher education in India and the UK. The paper will analyse attitudes towards social involvement and volunteering amongst students at St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and Liverpool Hope University, Liverpool. The problematic nature of efforts to promote social awareness and the transformation of self will be discussed in relation to theories of learning. Both quantitative and qualitative data will be presented that will help academics and practitioners to assess the impact of social involvement or service learning initiatives.
