Perception of Education Students About Twitter as a Learning Tool
Abstract
Social networks are one of the main means of expression and communication of young people today. That is why it is considered necessary to introduce educational innovation projects in which these type of digital tools are mediators in the learning process for the training of future teachers. This study presents the results of the measurement of the perceptions of education students (N = 281) from two Spanish universities (Pontificia Comillas de Madrid and Pontificia Salamanca) on the use of the social network Twitter. The main objectives of the study are to present an innovation project using the social network “X” (Twitter) in a higher education context and to explore the possible benefits of its use for the learning process. An exploratory study is carried out, collecting quantitative data through a questionnaire made ad hoc to perform an analysis using percentages. Also, qualitative data collected in open-ended questions are analyzed, with the aim of having a result as close to reality as possible. The results show that the activity generated a high level of motivation, a growing interest in delving deeper into the contents, and high levels of satisfaction with the use of the social network.
