Abstract

Maps and mapping organize and represent our physical, social, and cognitive worlds. Nowadays, the proliferation of digital maps resulting from the democratization of certain technological tools, have acquired new meanings for Cartography and its ideological processes. We can see a huge development in the production and use of maps by not proficient users or technicians. However, these maps are still locked into “agendas,” defined by the State or for commercial purposes. We will show and categorize collaborative, artistic, and political maps which re-appropriate the Cartography in the context of Locative Media artwork that enable forms of creative relationship with space. Mappings that rethink and redesign the role of representation of spaces, regions, and identities in the contemporary world: Creative Cartographies.
