Impact of Principals’ Transformational Leadership on School Culture
Abstract
Recent educational research has shown that transformational leadership by principals has a statistically significant positive impact on school culture. However, the literature demonstrates a lack of research on these implications in the Vietnamese setting. Therefore, the current study seeks to analyze the relationship between principals’ transformational leadership styles and school cultures within the Vietnamese educational system. The study collected quantitative data from 375 teachers at fifteen different high schools using the multifactor leadership questionnaire (MLQ) and the school culture survey (SCS). The findings from the path analyses demonstrated positive correlations between principals’ transformational leadership styles and school culture in terms of teacher collaboration, unity of purpose, and professional development. These findings underline the importance of incorporating transformational leadership concepts into training programs to foster a constructive and supportive school culture. The study suggests that future research may combine qualitative and quantitative methods to better understand the dynamic relationship between principals’ transformational leadership and school culture.
